San Onofre State Beach is one of my favorites for either a good longboard session or a relaxing beach day. Only 3 miles south of San Clemente, San Onofre is a 3,000-acre state park in San Diego Country. San O has extraordinary surf, making recreational water sports the main attraction. There are several well-known surf breaks here including trestles, churches, and trails. However, you don't have to be a surfer to enjoy this beach. Hikers, campers, bikers, volleyball players, swimmers, and sunbathers all agree that San Onofre is the place to be. The San Onofre community is filled with some of the nicest people I have ever met. In fact, community members have come together to build furniture, showers, and huts. The environment and vibes are indescribable.
Below is a list of the surf breaks at San Onofre State Beach, including the skill level required. The surf spots are listed in order from north to south. In the near future, I will be writing separate detailed articles about each surf break. Follow @alysse.dodge on Instagram for updates.
